The Poole ‘Wessex Marine’ Pirates are delighted to announce the launch of the Poole Pirates Kids Crew, a brand-new initiative for ages 0-16 aimed at engaging and inspiring the next generation of speedway fans!
Launching on Wednesday 20th May, at the Pirates’ home fixture against the Oxford Cheetahs, the Kids Crew will provide a fun and interactive racenight experience for younger supporters, in association with Splashdown Waterpark.
Membership to the Kids Crew is £20 for the 2026 season and includes a range of exclusive items, including a Kids Crew t-shirt, membership card, Pirates team photo, and a Pirates pen. Members will also be entered into a ballot for the chance to become a meeting mascot, offering a truly unforgettable race night experience.
The Kids Crew area will be based in the unused bar of the West Grandstand (glass stand) at each home meeting, the Kids Crew zone will be open from 6:30pm until 7:15pm, giving children the chance to get involved before the action begins on track. Each week, members can collect an activity sheet and have their membership card stamped, building up their Pirates journey across the season.
Adding to the excitement, the Pirates will also be introducing a Kids Race, set to take place during the second scheduled track grade, giving young fans their moment in the spotlight in front of the Wimborne Road crowd.
Poole promoter Dan Ford believes the initiative is a key step in building the club’s future support:
“The Kids Crew is something we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a while now and it’s a really important part of what we’re trying to do as a club. Alongside our school visits at the start of the season, it’s all about bringing the next generation of speedway fans through and giving them a real connection to the Pirates. We want young supporters to feel part of the club, and this is a great way to do that.”
The project is being led by Sam Loder, who is excited to see the Kids Crew come to life:
“I’m really excited to get the Kids Crew up and running and to create something fun and engaging for our younger fans. It’s all about giving them something to look forward to every week and making their experience at the speedway even more special.”
With the support of Splashdown Waterpark, the Pirates are confident the Kids Crew will become a popular and lasting addition to racenights at Wimborne Road, helping to grow the club’s fanbase for years to come.
The Pirates encourage all young fans to get involved and be part of the journey when the Kids Crew officially launches on May 20th. Memberships can be completed in person from the Kids Crew area at Wednesday’s fixture or join online HERE
