IT IS BACK!

"It's back where it belongs. This is a Pirates trophy and it is back in our cabinet again" were the words of a jubilant Richard Lawson after the Dorset side re-claimed the BSN Series trophy from the season-long custodians Redcar.

In a dramatic night of speedway at Wimborne Road it took a rule-book decision to ignite the passion in the Pirates' hearts when Kyle Newman was given his marching orders for unwittingly delaying the start of a feisty heat eight. 

The Poole reserve turned away from the tapes whilst the two riders on his outside, Jake Mulford and Will Cairns, were arguing over territory, and by the time he returned the two-minutes had expired, thus judged not to have been ready to race within the allotted period. In his place came Slighter Lightcap and with Cairns determined to let his racing do the talking the pair partnered up for a result-turning 5-1, as it allowed Poole to level the aggregate scores at 69 each. From this heat onwards Poole began to control the meeting, Lewis Kerr and Cooper Rushen backing that maximum heat score up with one of their own, before Lawson and Cairns stretched made it a complete swing of the six point deficit that the Pirates had faced going into the meeting. 

Redcar refused to give up without a fight and Charles Wright and Mulford kept the tie alive with a 4-2 in heat eleven, but Newman and Kerr countered that in the twelfth. After Wright secured his fourth win of the evening Poole were almost home and dry with the resulting shared heat before Rushen delivered the winning ride in heat fourteen in some style. The final heat went to a re-run after Jake Allen had suffered a heavy fall and most innocently Cook got caught up and Lawson, who never likes to see an opponent go away from Wimborne Road unbeaten, ensured, in emphatic fashion, that Wright would not go through the card unbeaten.

He further commented

"Fair play to Redcar they made it really tough for us and we had to really work for this title, but that is what finals are all about. You find out what you've got and who your team-mates are and you couldn't ask for much more so it's awesome and we are just warming up now for the league title."
