EMOTIONAL TOBY REVEALS FORCED TO MOVE ON FROM POOLE

17/11/25

An emotional message from Tobias Thomsen has revealed that the popular Dane will not be returning to Wimborne Road for a third straight term.

Having won back to back league and cup titles as a Pirate, Thomsen confirmed that he had already signed a contract with Brovst in the Danish League that will make him unavailable for a number of Wednesday nights and explained "I have now signed a UK contract but sadly it is not with Poole. It is not that I don't want to be a Pirate again, I really do, but it just isn't possible. I want to be able to give 100% to my teams and it would not be good for me to have to miss so many meetings. We have seen some riders try it in the past and it doesn't work. I would like to thank everyone at Poole for their support for me over the past two seasons. Without a doubt the greatest moment in my speedway career for me personally was the 2024 Grand Final against Oxford. I will never forget that. "

"Like I said, I will be racing in the UK in 2026 and would just say to all Poole fans, please don't be a stranger. Come up and say hi and have your photos with me when I'm around. Let's not say that I won't never be back as a Pirates, you just can't ever know what might happen."

Poole promoter Dan Ford expressed his gratitude to Tobias for his commitment to Poole in the past two years and declared "we have loved working with Toby and we were keen to bring him back for 2026, but with his new Danish commitments on Wednesdays it was evident that it would be best for all parties to allow him to explore other UK options."

The Pirates have so far confirmed that both Richard Lawson and Will Cairns will be back for 2026.
