LAWSON MISSES LEAGUE OPENER

23/05/23

Key man Richard Lawson has been ruled out of tomorrow's (Wednesday 24th May) opening league meeting for the Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates after suffering a sickening crash during Monday night's SGB Sports Insure Premier League meeting between Leicester and Sheffield.

Riding for the Leicester Lions, the newcomers to the top flight, Richard was involved in a collision with Tobias Musielak in the last heat, sustaining chest injuries. The extent of his lay-off is still to be determined and the Pirates have called upon Australian Justin Sedgmen to step in as a guest replacement for their meeting against Scunthorpe.

Poole promoter Dan Ford said "Anyone who saw Richard's crash last night must have felt the pain he was in and we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery. There is no doubt we will miss his scoring power but it is essential that he gets himself fully fit before taking to the track again. The good news is that he has reported that he suffered no broken bones so hopefully with some rest and recuperation his lay-off won't be too extensive."
