RESULT: POOLE v RYE HOUSE

10/05/17

The Volvo Cars Poole Pirates sent top flight newcomers Rye House packing with a comprehensive return to winning ways.

Whilst the 56-33 score-line did not reflect the efforts that the key Rockets' riders put in, it does reveal that when all riders are firing the Pirates side can be a fearsome outfit.
Jack Holder stormed his way to three impressive opening rides, admitting that "I think I have now found the best set-ups for around here and I am happy with how it went tonight. I dropped off a bit towards the end but it is difficult to get by riders like Chris Harris."

It was Harris who was the only Rocket to beat Holder on the night, doing so both times when they met, whilst guest rider Nick Morris was unbeaten in the rides he completed, only to earn a starting offence disqualification in his final ride of the night. Brady Kurtz and skipper Hans Andersen were also three-times race winners and there were battling performances from reserves Nicolai Klindt and James Shanes whilst Kyle Newman, making his first Pirates appearance of the season was always in the mix of action and worked hard for his paid 5 return.

The visitors, already down in numbers due to the concussion injury sustained by Stuart Robson found themselves in deeper problems when Ellis Perks took a heavy fall in heat 2 and having to withdraw from the meeting with rib and knee injuries. That put added pressure on fellow reserve Robert Branford who had to cover three of the rider replacement rides on top of his programmed heats.

Poole set their stall out early but Edward Kennett demonstrated that the Rockets were not going to roll over without an effort and he made up a 15 metre handicap in heat 5 to claim second place behind the speedy Kurtz.
Holder and Morris repeated their opening 5-1 advantage in heat 6 only for Rye to reply through Wells and Harris as Danes Andersen and Klindt were both outgated. With the Rockets only able to field one rider in heat 8 the Pirates were able to stretch their lead again but not before Shanes fended off the efforts of Branford with some technique.
Poole continued to increase the difference between the two sides with Shanes saving a likely heat deficit in heat 12 with a superb final turn swoop to pass Branford as Harris led.
Poole saw out the remainder of the meeting with 4-2's in the final three heats as they leapfrogged over Rye House in the table.
