EASTER PREVIEW
The Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates face a tough opening fixture on Good Friday (6pm) when they welcome Devonshire cousins Plymouth Gladiator...
Anders Rowe will be surrendering the skull and crossbones for one night only to represent Swindon, the club he was due to have ridden for in the 2020 season, a campaign that was lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic and coincided with the closure of the Robins.
With Poole staging this challenge meeting to try and keep the Swindon name alive as the Wiltshire club looks for future options to enable to them to return to regular racing, Pirate fans will have the opportunity to see one of the management's winter targets in action, as Promoter Dan Ford reveals,
"We were keen that the Swindon Select side had connections to their club as much as possible, with either former riders or assets representing them. However, that was becoming a little bit difficult, as we also wanted to maintain some balance in strength between the two sides and to be honest Anders fitted in neatly to the middle order of their side, so we agreed to allow the Robins to use him, as he should have ridden for them in 2020 had things gone to plan.
"That also gave us the opportunity to cover the void left by Anders by booking the exciting young Australian Keynan Rew, a rider that we came very close to signing over the winter, even before he was snapped up by Premiership club Ipswich, as a guest Pirate. This lad has a considerable amount of talent and I really believe the Poole fans will enjoy seeing him in action and I know he is keen to put on a good show."
Besides confirming Rowe as a starter, 2016 and 2019 Robin Stefan Nielsen, a former Pirate and favourite around Wimborne Road, will also be in the Swindon Select, joining the heat-leader trio of Jason Doyle, Nick Morris and Justin Sedgmen, with the two reserves expected to be confirmed over the weekend.
