Ford hails Pirates six in big home win over Wolves

18/06/19

Danny Ford hailed his No1 Carpet Cleaning Poole Pirates for overcoming the loss of spearhead Jack Holder to see off Wolverhampton last night.

Holder withdrew from the SGB Premiership clash at Wimborne Road after a spill in heat one, but Ford’s men rallied to notch a 51-39 win over the Midlanders.

Nicolai Klindt led the way with 17 points from six rides and was supported by solid returns from Brady Kurtz (10+2), Josh Grajczonek (9+5), Nico Covatti (7) and Richie Worrall (6+1) as the Pirates overcame an early deficit to run out convincing winners.

Ford said: “Nicolai was superb all night and backed up brilliantly by Brady, Josh, Nico and Richie.

“Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen had an off night by his standards but it was a fine team effort and I’m delighted with the performance, particularly because we were down to six men for the whole meeting.”

Ford is “hopeful” Holder will be fit for Monday’s SGB Premiership trip to Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green after the Aussie withdrew with a groin injury on doctor’s advice following his heat one crash.

The Pirates Number One was set to miss his meeting in Sweden for Vastervik tonight.

Ford said: “Jack certainly did the right thing withdrawing from the meeting on the doctor’s advice.

“He will miss his Swedish meeting as he is struggling to put any weight on his leg, but we’re hopeful he will be fit for our meeting at Wolverhampton on Monday.”
