The 'Wessex Marine' Pirates are determined to not make it unlucky 13 in play-off history on Wednesday night, as they bid for a third successive league title.
Since play-offs were introduced in British Speedway to determine league champions, the Pirates have ridden 35 play-off fixtures at Wimborne Road and on just twelve occasions have failed to hit the 50-point barrier.
Trailing by eight points from the first leg of this year's title decider, it means that the Pirates will be crowned champions if they score that half century against the Scunthorpe Scorpions.Should the Pirates avoid that unlucky 13 statistic then the Ford dynasty will be able to celebrate their 13th league title and Dan Ford believes that one big push from his side will deliver:-
"We've worked all season to put ourselves in a position to fight for this title and now it comes to 15 heats at Wimborne Road. We know exactly what we need to do, 50 points wins us the Championship.
"Scunthorpe will make us fight for every single one of them, but this is our home, this is where we are at our strongest and I believe in these boys completely. We need the whole place behind us from heat one. Bring the noise, back the boys and let's make it a night to remember."
For Cooper Rushen and Slater Lightcap it will be their first WImborne Road championship play-off meeting. Both were inspirational in the first leg at Scunthorpe last Friday.
