The 'Wessex Marine' Pirates' MaxiCab Knockout cup defence for 2026 will begin with a first round contest against Scunthorpe.
2026 recruit Fraser Bowes has endured something of a torrid time back in his native Australia and now faces a race against time to be fit for the start of his new ventures with the Poole Wessex Marine Pirates.
He has suffered a couple of spills and has sustained a broken scapula (shoulder blade) in the latest which occurredin the Jason Lyons Trophy at Mildura. The 24-year old has sent a message of positivity to Poole fans:-
'Obviously breaking my scapula last weekend was really disappointing, especially so close to the [British] season, but I'm staying positive. Right now it's a waiting process and then I can fully focus on my recovery once the bone knits. I'll be doing everything possible to be ready for the first match in April and to be back riding at 100% for Poole.'
Co-promoter Dan Ford commented that 'we will be following Fraser's recovery closely but as things stand there is no need to panic right now. We send Fraser our best wishes for a speedy recovery. He is really keen to join us this season and is doing the best he can to make that happen.'
