Looking to put further distance between themselves and the nearest rivals, Glasgow, in the SCB Cab Direct Championship, the 'Wessex Marine' Pirates head for Workington on Saturday, with the Comets' current suspension set to be lifted this week, with a later than anticipated start time of 6pm.
The Cumbrian side have had no action since 21st June when they beat Plymouth in their one and only league fixture of the season due to the sport's governing body imposing two consecutive seven day suspensions whilst administrative errors were being resolved. But all partiers are hoping that the action will be back this weekend with the Pirates keen to maintain their impressive league title defence.
Promoter Dan Ford said, "I’m really pleased to see that Workington have resolved their administrative issues, and I wish them all the best for the remainder of the season. That said, we’ve got a job to do on Saturday. We’re hitting some good form now, and I know the boys are determined to keep delivering the high standards we expect of them."
"As we say every year, titles are not won in June, July or August but it is important that we put down markers and demonstrate our intent. We have had a short break since our excellent result over Glasgow (when they beat the Tigers 57-33 on July 2nd) and the lads are keen to get back together and get the points flowing."
Having impressed at Wimborne Road in that Glasgow meeting, teenager Will Cairns will be making his first away performance for the Pirates on Saturday in what will be his second appearance at Northside, having ridden there on the 250cc machines in the 2023 British Youth Championship, but for Anders Rowe it will be a debut performance for him at the venue where Lewis Kerr and Zach Cook were cruelly denied the chance of winning this season's Best Pairs when Kerr hit a soft patch and inadvertently brought Redcar's Erik Riss down.
