Treble winning Poole Pirates could have the opportunity to go for a fourth piece of silverware following an invitation made to them at this year's BSPL AGM, which concluded today (Thursday).
The Pirates have been invited to enter the SGB Premiership KO Cup competition along with the full complement of seven Premiership sides.
Poole promoter Dan Ford has given his reaction to the offer in his post Conference statement. "The AGM was very productive, the most unexpected development being our invitation to the Premiership KO Cup, which we have provisionally accepted. There are still many things to consider around that proposal and we will be putting meat on the bones of the offer over the coming months, with the help of Premiership CEO Phil Morris, but it is a very exciting opportunity that we are eager to pursue."
Should the Pirates agree formally to enter the competition then they will face Sheffield in the first round of the competition and given a concession to build to Premiership level whilst keeping the majority of our team.
As far as the SGB Championship is concerned, all nine teams have given their intentions to come to tapes again in 2025 thus the rivalry with Oxford, who will continue to operate across all three tiers of British Speedway, will continue. Championship sides can build teams to a 40 point limit, a level that has now been set for the next three years.
In the Championship KO Cup Poole are drawn against Plymouth, who once again are in the same BSN Series group, the Southern section comprising Oxford, Poole and Plymouth.
The 2025 Championship Pairs has been allocated to Workington on Saturday 5th April the eve of the Championship League Riders meeting which this season will be held at Scunthorpe (6th April).
