PIRATES LOOKING AHEAD

17/04/24

With no action this week for the Poole Wessex Marine Pirates it is a case of looking forward to the next meeting which is up on the horizon for Wednesday 24th April 2024.

That evening the Pirates will be hosting the Knockout Cup visit of the Edinburgh Monarchs for the first leg, a competition that Poole are determined to go one better than their beaten finalists tag from last season, as promoter Dan Ford proclaims
"We had become quite attached to the Knockout Trophy as we had held it in the office for two consecutive seasons and my message to Rob Godfrey (of cup winners Scunthorpe) is that he makes the most of having it temporarily under his custody, as we are ultra-determined to try and bring it back to where we feel it belongs."
" It is not going to be easy that's for sure and we could be a little bit track rusty going into the meeting, following our spate of postponements, but equally I know the lads will be determined to get some earnings under their belt"

As Ford alluded to, Poole relinquished the trophy to Scunthorpe in the two-legged final last October and the new holders have already made an impressive start to their defence putting sixty points past Plymouth in the first round first leg last Friday.

Poole will complete their tie against the Scottish capital side on Friday May 3rd, just forty eight hours after entertaining Plymouth in their final BSN Southern Group home fixture, which was postponed last week due to the weather.
The Pirates are still awaiting a date for the return trip to Plymouth but have agreed to visit Oxford - a meeting originally planned for April 3rd - on Wednesday 8th May, again this is a BSN Southern Group fixture.
