KURRI KURRI CURTAILED WITH ZACH IN FOURTH

7/01/24

Zach Cook claimed fourth place in the curtailed second round of the Australian Championship on Sunday at Kurri Kurri.

Track conditions at the New South Wales venue deteriorated  to such an extent that the meeting was abandoned after the twenty qualifying heats with the accumulated points going towards the riders' standings in the series. With nine points from his five rides Zach was three points shy of both Jack Holder and Max Fricke in a meeting dominated by series leader Rohan Tungate (14).

Had the meeting gone to the final stages Pirates' captain  Ben Cook would have  agonisingly missed out on a semi final ride due to the make-up of his eight point haul being inferior to that of fellow eight pointers Brady Kurtz, Chris Holder, Jaimon Lidsey, Ryan Douglas and Sam Masters. Each of those rivals had attained a race win during their five qualifying heats with Ben having three second places and two thirds.

The two Pirates currently stand tenth and eleventh in the championship with Ben on fourteen point and Zach thirteen as the series moves to Victoria on Tuesday.

Current standings:
Rohan Tungate 30, Max Fricke 27,  Jaimon Lidsey 23, Jack Holder 22, Josh Pickering 19, Chris Holder 18, Brady Kurtz & Ryan Douglas 16, Sam Masters 15, Ben Cook 14,  Zach Cook 13, James Pearson 11, Keynan Rew 7, Tate Zischke & Michael West 5, Fraser Bowes & Jye Etheridge 4
