STUNNED TOBY BECOMES FOURTH NEW FACE FOR PIRATES '24

Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates have swooped for the services of 29-year old Danish rider Tobias Thomsen to complete their 2024 side

Thomsen, will be the fourth new face in Poole seven for 2024 as he resurrects his British racing career after previously having gained limited experience at second tier level with the Birmingham Brummies, which saw him spend  two spells with the Midland side during the 2019 season. A victim of the 'numbers game' in a mid-season team reshuffle, which took Adam Ellis and Nathan Stoneman to Perry Barr, Thomsen was released after seven appearances, riding from the number two berth.

But fifteen weeks later he was recalled to provide permanent cover for the injured James Shanes, again being handed the number two position from where he went on to make a further six appearances, a spell in which he returned his best score of ten from four .

In welcoming Tobias to Poole, promoter Dan Ford said "we know that Tobias is ultra-keen to make his presence felt in British Speedway and we are looking for him to add to the mid-order fire power of the team. He joins us on a 4-point average, which is the minimum figure a Danish rider can hold. We are aware that he failed to attain that figure with Birmingham five years ago but he is a far better rider now and we believe that he will make an impression that will be highly appreciated by our loyal fan base."

Speaking of joining the Pirates, Tobias claimed "when Matt called me and said that the Pirates wanted me for 2024 it caught me by surprise, to be honest and I must admit I was speechless at first, but after a good long talk with Matt I realised we shared a lot of the same missions and personal goals so I found out quite quickly that me and the Poole Pirates will be a good match you know. So I knew quite fast that I need to do this and so, here I am. 100% ready to fight and go for the gold in the upcoming season.

"For me as a rider I am 100% committed in all I do so I am not coming to the UK to be average, I am coming to be dominant. That is the goal. It is go hard or go home for me so I look forward to seeing everyone at Poole in March and wish you all nice holidays. Merry Christmas and have a good New Year guys."
