TURBO TWIN IN TOWN

1/08/23

Turbo Twin Darcy Ward will make a rare but welcomed appearance at Wimborne Road on Wednesday night when he is back in town, for the first time since August 2016

In Europe for an extended period, essentially for a family wedding, Darcy was an integral part of the Australian International outfit during the recent FIM Speedway World Cup in Poland, offering advice and support to the Aussie team and now in the UK he is making a point of returning to the stadium where he is still hailed as a real hero.

A five-term Pirate, Darcy and his Aussie buddy Chris Holder produced many memorable moments throughout his racing career which tragically was cut short in August 2015 when he suffered life changing injuries that rendered him wheelchair bound and paralysed from the chest down.

Current Poole promoter Dan Ford claimed "In my lifetime Darcy is unquestionably the most talked about Poole speedway rider and he has left an imprint on so many hearts amongst the Poole faithful. It will be great to meet up with him again and I am sure there will be many fans who will be delighted to hear from someone who justifiably can be referred to as a club legend.

"Just as when he was racing, Darcy has taken on the challenge of realigning his life and dealing with his injuries, wholeheartedly and it is fantastic to have him back in town again. My Dad is in regular contact with him and Darcy is keeping a close eye on the talent pool of young Aussie riders for us and I am sure we will be able to get him out on the centre green and have a word or two with him during the course of Wednesday's meeting.
