THOMAS INJURED IN PRE-SEASON PRACTICE

3/03/23

Poole Speedway management are having to consider their options after their 2023 recruit Jack Thomas sustained serious injuries whilst practicing at Scunthorpe on Thursday.

Thomas who missed a chunk of the 2022 campaign after breaking both his wrists, was going well in the practice session until he crashed leaving with two broken vertebrae, a broken neck, bruised lungs and some broken ribs.

He is expected to be transferred to a neuro-specialist hospital in Hull today (Friday) for a fuller assessment of his condition. Jack has reported that he has still got feeling.
Poole promoter Dan Ford said, "I am sure I can speak on behalf of speedway supporters across the country when I say that we wish Jack a speedy recovery. I know our own fans will be disappointed that we will not have the chance to see Jack do a full season with us. We can only hope that Jack will be given the best possible treatment and work his way back to fitness and that we will have the opportunity to see him at a meeting or two as his recovery evolves."

Thomas had been signed by the Pirates on a 4.78 average and the Pirates had just under half a point within the 40 point limit to play with, but with the club's Press and Practice day less than three weeks a way they find themselves under time pressure to find a suitable replacement.
