REACTION: PIRATES TRIUMPH AT COLISEUM TO PROGRESS TO SEMIS

20/09/22

Poole successfully qualified for the play-off semi-finals, doing so in style with a ten point away win at Plymouth, backing up their thirty point advantage from the first leg.

The 50-40 victory at the Coliseum was achieved without ever falling behind to the Gladiators, although the home side , weakened by the late withdrawal of Hans Andersen who was suffering after aggravating his shoulder injury, twice levelled the match up,

But maximum heat advantages in the first two heats after the interval, put Poole eight points up after twelve races on a night of fast and furious speedway racing, and two heats later when Drew Kemp shot out of the gate to win heat fourteen against the Gladiators star racer Lee Complin, victory was assured for the Pirates, a result that pleased Dan Ford, "We came here to do the business and that was what we achieved. For sure we are going to  be meeting some stronger looking sides as we host Leicester in the cup on Wednesday and then Glasgow on Sunday in the play-offs but we could easily have taken our foot of the gas once we had scored the 31 points we needed , but we did that at heat 11 and still went on to rack up a score of 50 points.

"We are now an aggregate win away from being in the play-off final and just forty-seven points short of being in the cup final, as well as also being in the Jubilee League final, so we have three very big meetings coming up and if we can maintain the form that we are in right now then our season could be very much alive heading into October.
