As the Pirates hit the road for the first leg of the Knockout Cup final against Edinburgh, they do so in the knowledge that this will be their final visit to the Scottish capital after Glasgow ploughed their way to the Grand Final of the play-offs.
Successfully defending their 22-point first leg advantage, the Tigers have assured that the title race will be decided by the two sides that finished first and second after the regular league programme, Poole having topped the table by a three point margin over Glasgow.
The last title race staged in tier two British speedway was in 2019 with Glasgow finalists that time around, but beaten by the club that Poole dumped out of two semi-finals this year, Leicester. It was only a narrow 91-89 aggregate score that denied the Tigers a first title success since 2011, the year Poole completed a league and cup double when in the top flight.
When Poole visited Ashfield, the home of the Tigers, in the league this season, they had to complete the fixture without the services of their then number one Rory Schlein who was injured in the opening heat. It was only the second meeting of the Pirates season and was only one of five defeats suffered during their twenty-match league programme.
Glasgow went through their season with just one home defeat – that inflicted by their national rivals Edinburgh back in July, a result that was proven to be a rare blip as they claimed large margin home victories over the Monarchs when they met in both the KO Cup and the Play-off semi-finals.
The first leg of the play-off final will take place on Tuesday 26th October 7:30pm at Ashfield Stadium, Glasgow. The return leg will take place at the home of the Pirates, Poole Stadium on Friday 29th October 7:30pm
