PIRATES TAME TIGERS TO MAINTAIN 100% RECORD

3/09/21

The Poole Pirates made an emphatic statement against potential play-off rivals Glasgow as they sent the third placed Tigers to a 56-34 defeat, the biggest defeat the Tigers have suffered this season, and remain the only SGB Championship league side with a 100% home record.

Skipper Danny King continued his impeccable run of form, returning an unbeaten performance for the third successive match at Wimborne Road and was joined in the maximum club by the impressive Steve Worrall who overcome some mechanical issues to register his first maximum in Poole colours.

Both King and Worrall were quick to praise the track staff for their efforts throughout the week to produce a much-improved racing surface. Worrall, who scooped the Rider of the Night accolade said "full credit to everyone involved in the track work, we had a fantastic track tonight. I don't think the score really reflected Glasgow's effort as we had to work hard, but I am really enjoying riding for Poole. We have a very solid one to seven although, it is such a shame to lose Stefan (Nielsen). I was really happy riding with him as we had a good understanding. He had just dropped to reserve, and it is such a shame to not have him out there. We are all in touch through our group messaging and he is in good spirits, and we all wish him the very best."

The Pirates did a fully professional job on fending off the Tigers, restricting the visitors to just two race winners - Sam Jensen in heat 10 and reserve Connor Bailey in heat 14 with Jensen backing up in second for the Scottish side's only heat advantage. A third did look on the cards in heat 15 until leader Broc Nicol crashed out allowing Rory Schlein and Ben Basso to collect the Pirates fourth 5-1 and ninth heat advantage of the evening.

The victory ensured that Poole will be featuring in the title deciding play-offs as they are guaranteed a top six finish, but the goal is to secure one of the top two places so that they can head directly for the semi-finals. With Plymouth and Redcar still to host at Wimborne Road, provided they can protect that perfect home record, then that mission will have been accomplished.
