The newly crowned British Champion will be in action on Wednesday night (18th August) for his SGB Championship club Scunthorpe.
Adam Ellis dethroned Poole's number one Rory Schlein of the title and the pair will go head to head in heat one on Wednesday as both clubs look to strengthen their play-off claims.
Whilst the Poole trio of Schlein (5pts), Danny King (6pts) and Steve Worrall (8pts) found consistency hard to come by at the National Speedway Stadium on Monday, Ellis strung together a splendid set of results to book his place directly in the final with a 13-point yield from his five rides, dropping his only points in heat three when running a third place behind Dan Bewley and Lewis Kerr.
Local favourite Bewley was very much a pre-meeting favourite but although his 12-points matched that of 2019 British Champion Charles Wright, it was inferior under countback rules because Wright had beaten him in the heats. So Bewley along with former Pirates Chris Harris, Kyle Howarth and Scott Nicholls had to seek a route to the final via the semi-final heat and Bewley made no mistake, joined by Harris.
But in the final Ellis made a superb start and was happy to make headway whilst Bewley and Wright were scrapping for the minor places. Ellis who reads Poole's number one Rory Schlein of the title admitted after his success "This feels good and hearing the words British Champion against my name sounds even better. It was a long night and a tough one but I am so happy to walk away with the win. I never expected to win the title but I didn't come here just to make up the numbers. I knew that there have been a number of shock winners in recent years and I felt that I have been going really good this year and this was a meeting I wanted to do well in and we all know that when it comes to the final anything can happen."
Whilst tickets for Wednesday can be purchased online, cash admissions on the night will be accepted.
