SENSATIONAL CEGIELSKI!

26/11/20

First season sensations do not come around too often and there is no doubt that Poole fans have been treated to more than a few, especially under the tenureship of Matt Ford who has used his world contacts wisely.

One of his best ever prospects arrived at Wimborne Road in 2001 and formed a dynamic relationships with fellow club debutant Hans Andersen.

That rider was the brilliant Krzysztof Cegielski, a talent that the sport was robbed of when he suffered a life-changing crash in Sweden in June 2003. Poole had been denied a second year of fielding the superb Pole as the authorities brought in a ruling for the 2002 campaign, restricting teams to only one eight plus GP rider per side.
Cegielski, who had breached the 8-point average in his debut year, had been given a permanent wild card entry to the 2002 series so that put him up against reigning world champion Tony Rickardsson and it was the Swede that was given the nod by the Poole management.

There is no doubt that Cegielski had the style, the ability and the drive, he has a solid set of racing statistics as a Pirate:

  • 34 Meetings
  • 167 rides
  • Won/Paid Win 72 times.
  • Rode in a total of 11 heat two's and was beaten by an opponent only ONCE (Brent Werner on Friday 13th April)
  • 15 times appeared in heat 15
  • Heat 1: Never Appeared
  • Heat 2: 10 from 11
  • Heat 3:  9 from 24
  • Heat 4:  5 from 9
  • Heat 5:  4 from 11
  • Heat 6: Never Appeared
  • Heat 7: 3 from 14
  • Heat 8: 8 from 11
  • Heat 9: 3 from 12
  • Heat 10: 3 from 18
  • Heat 11: 2 from 2
  • Heat 12: 16 from 31
  • Heat 13: Never Appeared
  • Heat 14: 3 from 9
  • Heat 15: 6 from 15

Krzysztof met 72 different opponents  and there were only five of those he failed to beat. Ryan Sullivan beat him five times out of five (twice at Wimborne Road and three times at Peterborough), Jason Crump won all three of their contests as did Peter Karlsson. He was beaten both times by Carl Stonehewer and Lucas Dryml gained the bragging rights when the two of the met just the once.
