Local lad Kyle Newman registered his first ever maximum of his senior career on this very day six years ago (2014) a night when heavy traffic in and around the town centre impacted on the meeting against the Belle Vue Aces being delayed until an 8pm start.
But once under way Kyle, who was back in the saddle after a short lay-off due to a shoulder injury, had no such traffic problems winning his first three rides outright and then backed up his Czech team-mate Vaclav Milik to claim that unbeaten scorecard.
Celebrating that proud maximum, Kyle humbly admitted "I owed the Poole fans a decent performance as I've not been on it recently. I promised that I would go out and chase the points and I was making some good starts tonight. It feels good to get the maximum and its good that we got the result we were looking for too"
It certainly was a sought after result, the Pirates having lost heavily by 18 points to the Aces in Manchester just 48 hours earlier but with Newman unbeaten, Maciej Janowski and Darcy Ward both only dropping a point a-piece, Poole pulled off a 20 point victory. The Pirates only allowed their visitors to win three races all evening, Matej Zagar doing so twice and Rohan Tungate just the once.
