The calendar shows that today, Monday 22nd June, is the 25th Monday of the year, much of which has of course been spent under the cloud of Covid-19.
Just a year ago however, on this equivalent Monday the Pirates were in action and had travelled to Monmore Green, Wolverhampton for their fifth Premiership away match of the campaign.
Their journeys outside of Dorset had been fairly profitable boasting two drawn matches (Belle Vue and Swindon) and consolation points acquired from their two appearances at Peterborough.
Wolves were going through a tough time by their high home standards, still smarting from a massive 38-52 defeat at the hands of Belle Vue in their previous home fixture, although nearly a month had elapsed since that shock result.
But the Pirates were keen to pile on the Monmore misery and with Jack Holder declared fit after his opening heat crash against the Wolves at Wimborne Road seven days previously, were quick out of the traps to roar into a ten point lead after just three races on June 24th 2019, back-to-back maximum heat advantages being delivered by Nico Covatti and Nikolai Busk-Jakobsen (heat 2) and Nicolai Klindt and Josh Grajczonek (heat 3) after Holder had won the opener with partner Richie Worrall picking up third place.
It wasn't to be until heat 9 however before the travelling Poole fans could cheer home another race winner and a treble of 5-1's from the home side in heats four to six had calmed down many of their fans. It was Brady Kurtz who delivered that Poole heat win but vitally, because the Pirates had slipped to a four point deficit, Nico Covatti's withheld all of Jacob Thorsell's pressure to cling on to second place to level the meeting at 27 each.
An abrupt stop by Kyle Howarth in heat ten enabled Klindt to steal a point, backing up Grajczonek's heat 10 win giving Poole a slender lead that they were able to cling on to over the final third of the meeting, extending it briefly to six in heat 12 when Covatti and Klindt registered Poole's fourth maximum heat score, only for Sam Masters and Rory Schlein to counter in heat 13 over Holder and Kurtz.
A share of 4-2 advantages concluded the meeting to provide Poole with their first away league win of the 2019 Premiership campaign.
