SEASON DELAYED UNDER COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS

17/03/20

The novel virus Covid-19 is to take it's affect on British Season with the campaign being temporarily suspended until 15th April and monitored continuously.

The British Speedway Board of Directors met today for their regular monthly meeting and developed a 'game management plan' which will see all speedway meetings cancelled with immediate effect with a further assessment being taken into consideration on 15th April.

Supporting the Board's decision, Poole co-promoter Dan Ford stated "naturally it is very sad that we have had to go down this route as there was an incredible buzz about our imminent start to the season, but we have to look at the much wider picture. We are in some crazy times at the moment with the only certainty being the uncertainty.

It is of course right to be cautious as no-one really knows too much about this pandemic, information updates are continuous and so I believe that the agreement reached today is a pragmatic one.

Of course it hits us we were due to stage our first meeting on March 25th with Neil Middleditch's meeting, but we will be looking at the feasibility of re-staging that towards the end of the season, when hopefully matters will be a lot clearer. We are also suspending our Press and Practice day on Friday and all fixtures between now and 15th April as things stand. I stress however that the Board will be monitoring the situation and working in consultation with government advice and recommendations and therefore the suspension of meetings might possibly be further extended.

Poole Speedway's Riders Equipment Fund next Social evening on Wednesday 18th March is also suspended.
