THE KING HAS ARRIVED

4/12/19

Wimborne Road is preparing its special throne as the Pirates welcome in their 2020 number one, the King Himself, Danny, who will also be installed as club captain.

The 33-year-old former British Champion who helped mastermind Ipswich's victory over the Pirates in last year's SGB Premiership play-off semi-final has been snapped up by the Poole management to lead the club's charge into the SGB Championship.

King won his National Title in 2016, twelve years after being crowned British U18 champion and has a wealth of British racing experience behind him all of which the Poole management believe will be good for the Pirates' cause.

Club co-promoter Danny Ford said "There is no shadow of a doubt that Danny will be a big-hitter for us in the Championship and I am really excited to have him on board. He is such a good racer and his record speaks for itself. Before Ipswich moved up to the top flight last season Danny spent four seasons with them and scored over 1600 points in that time at Championship level, and when you consider, that final year at that level with them, 2018, he was ruled out of much of the season with a nasty arm injury, it speaks volumes for his scoring prowess.  Last year he banked 300 points for Sheffield in the Championship and came close to matching that total in the Premiership.
Danny is a rider that my Dad has always got on well with and to have him leading the team is something special and I believe it shows our intent on making our move a successful one. It means we have two really top GB riders in Danny and Steve (Worrall) and with Stefan (Nielsen) as well it is great to be tapping into British talent.

King joins on a starting average 8.45.
