PIRATES SIGN WORRALL.......STEVE!

20/11/19

Poole's first confirmed SGB Championship rider is the experienced 28 year old GB International Steve Worrall.

Twin brother of Richie who has been part of the Poole set-up for the previous two seasons, Steve joins the Dorset side after spending last year with Newcastle (Championship) and Belle Vue (Premiership). In a career that began with Scunthorpe in 2010, Steve has also seen action with Redcar, Swindon and Edinburgh at senior level.

Speaking of the club's first signing, Poole promoter Danny Ford claimed "it is an exciting prospect to have Steve riding for us in 2020.  Of course, here at Poole we are familiar with his brother Richie who played a big role in our 2018 title winning side before having to sit out most of last season through injury.
"There is a family pedigree there, as Steve has proven be it in his GB performances or domestic racing and we have decided to tap into that. He showed his quality last season with Belle Vue and riding as number one for Newcastle and he will come into the side on a 7.39 starting average.  Being able to confirm that we have captured such a superb prospect makes it a brilliant start to our team building."

Those words were underwritten by Dan's father, Matt Ford, who as club owner added "I have always had a lot of admiration for Stevie. He's a good rider and has gained lots of experience as a number one at Championship level. We are expecting him to start at number three for the Pirates and I firmly believe that he will be excited to take on the pressure of representing the Pirates."

Worrall is rapidly approaching the 2,500 points barrier at Championship level and he provides a solid foundation on which the Pirates will be built upon for their first season in this new era for the club.
