PIRATES FOCUSING ON DEVELOPING STRONG CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE

17/11/19

Poole promoter Danny Ford described his maiden BSPA Annual Conference as "a fantastic experience"

"Of course, the key aspect for us was getting the approval to join the SGB Championship for 2020, something that we feel is the absolute right move for the club and for the sport in general. The switch of leagues allows us to restore Wednesday night racing and when you consider that nearly 40% of the responses we had to our website survey categorically stated that the move to Thursday had an adverse effect on them being able to attend meetings, it is clear to see why we must operate on the right night.
"Now that our move has been approved we can really focus on developing a team. That is something we have already been quite busy on and although the full jigsaw is not currently complete, I am really hoping to be able to announce our first rider at the REF Winter Social evening this coming Wednesday.  As well as working on the team we have been giving a lot of attention in trying to secure a new main team sponsor and this is our high priority. Last season we found ourselves in a very vulnerable position due to the unfortunate circumstances of our main sponsor and as a business we can ill afford that to happen again, so finding the right main sponsor is absolutely paramount. "

Ford, who will be taking a more hands-on role at the club for 2020, admits also to being "incredibly excited for the forthcoming season  which will be an important one for Poole Speedway. " He added "I hope that with the change in league, more opposition and some other changes we will be making during the course of the season the fans will be excited too. The adoption of a new league structure in the SGB Championship, where we are split into two geographical regions but racing against all the clubs from the two groups is an interesting concept and given that there has been a lot of public call for one big league with a north/south divide, then we could be finding ourselves in a potential forerunner of the future of the sport."
