FORD TO HONOUR BRITISH CHAMP

The Volvo Cars Poole Pirates will honour newly-crowned British champion Robert Lambert when King’s Lynn arrive at Wimborne Road tomorrow night.

‘Ruthless’ Lambert crowned a stunning week for British speedway by romping to an 18-point full maximum the British Final at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester on Monday.

Lambert’s triumph came just 48 hours after he helped Great Britain to a silver medal behind Russia in the Speedway of Nations event.

Pirates promoter Matt Ford said: "It's wonderful when a new star of the sport comes along and Robert being British makes it even sweeter.

"He has proved he can mix it with the very best in the sport and while his on-track ability is clear for all to see, I’m extremely impressed with his attitude off track, where I feel he’s handled himself with dignity over the past week. Let's hope Robert continues to ply his trade in the UK for many years to come."

In that British Final, Poole's Richie Worrall endured a tough night. The Merseysider had machine problems in two of his outings, shedding a chain on the start line in one of them and could only muster 3 points. His twin brother, Steve, made his first track appearance since breaking his leg in April but he was forced to sit-out his final two rides.

Lambert captains the King's Lynn Stars who, on their five away-days so far this season have broken through the 40-point barrier on all occasions and banked four league points in doing so, which included a win at Belle Vue. They currently sit on the same points tally, 10, as the Volvo Cars Poole Pirates, but have mustered that from just 7 meetings, two fewer than the Pirates and they also boast a far better race points differential.

The home side welcome back Dane Nicolai Klindt who has recovered for surgery on a knee injury that forced to him cut his 2017 season short. He fills the place that became vacant when Paul Starke's temporary cover period for broken leg victim Stefan Nielsen, sustained in the last meeting staged at Poole, came to an end.

Meanwhile, the Poole Speedway schools football tournament gets back under way at the stadium from 6.45pm when St Joseph’s take on Talbot Primary before the racing begins at 7.30pm.
