PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
Matt Ford tonight confirmed he had drafted in Volvo Cars Poole Pirates asset Nicolai Klindt to replace stricken reserve Stefan Nielsen.
Nielsen broke a leg after crashing badly during the Pirates' 45-45 draw at home to Wolverhampton last week and Ford has moved swiftly to secure Klindt's services.
However, with rider averages not set to change until the meeting at home to King's Lynn on June 13, making room for Klindt, Ford will use Paul Starke for the next two SGB Premiership clashes at Wolverhampton tomorrow night and at home to Leicester on Wednesday.
Klindt starred for the Pirates last season and also notched 11 points for the reformed Yarmouth Bloaters during Poole's 70th birthday meeting on April 26.
Ford said: "I'm delighted to bring Nicolai back, albeit in upsetting circumstances after the injury to Stefan.
"We had initially looked at Josh Auty to come in for the two meetings between now and the new averages coming into play but his Championship average has changed and it was not possible. So, I'm grateful to Paul Starke for agreeing to step into the breach for the next few days.
"Once the new averages kick in, we will get a better picture of how the team can take shape going forward and, with new figures for Linus Sundstrom, Brady Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek, we could have an extra point to play with, so I am not ruling out further changes in June.
"I think Nicolai coming in will make us stronger as a unit and once the new averages are in place, I feel I will have a good opportunity to strengthen the team as a one-to-seven."
Starke will line up at reserve alongside Mateusz Szczepaniak at Monmore Green tomorrow
Wolves: Jacob Thorssell, Kyle Howarth, Cameron Heeps, Sam Masters, Rory Schlein, Nathan Greaves, Ashley Morris.
Pirates: Brady Kurtz, Kacper Woryna, Josh Grajczonek, Linus Sundstrom, Richie Worrall, Mateusz Szczepaniak, Paul Starke.
