PREVIEW: KING'S LYNN v POOLE - WEDNESDAY 25TH APRIL

On the eve of the club's 70th Birthday the 'VOLVO CARS' POOLE PIRATES make a rare Wednesday trip from Wimborne Road as they visit King's Lynn in the SGB Premiership.

An unchanged Poole side make the trip to Norfolk to face the Stars with whom they are level on league points, although the Pirates have had two more outings so far.

Lynn opened their season with a convincing win over Belle Vue a week ago and then picked up an away point last Thursday at Swindon. The Pirates started in similar fashion themselves, beating Belle Vue at Poole and then fighting back for a point in Manchester on the first of their travels. But subsequenly suffered a heavy home loss to Swindon last week and then went down against a strong-looking  Wolverhampton side.

In an unchanged seven the Pirates will be keen to put the Stars under early pressure at the Adrian Flux Arena to avoid  having to play catch-up as they have found themselves in over their last two matches, but Neil Middleditch is not ready to hit the panic button just yet. "We were up against a very good Wolverhampton side that have hit the ground running this season, on Monday and with it being something of a specialist track the odds were stacked against us of getting a result from there. The Norfolk Arena should suit our lads a bit more and provided we can be that little more alert at the starts should be able to put on a good showing.

The Stars have an injury concern over Lewis Rose but he is determined to ride through the pain barrier after suffering ligament damage to his wrist.

On Thursday the birthday celebrations begin for the Poole club with speedway being brought to the town for as little as £8 with a special challenge against Yarmouth, the club that the Pirates first rode against on April 26th 1948 at Wimborne Road.

As well as the racing, Meatloaf tribute Terry Nash will be performing live and the stadium will be open between 2.30pm and 5.30pm for a free 'History of Poole Speedway' event.

The afternoon's showcase will include talks from Pirates riders past and present, before the main gates open at 6pm and racing begins at 7pm.
