Australians Troy Batchelor and Rohan Tungate are joined by Ricky Wells and Jason Garrity in a re-run of the Pirates’ maiden April 26, 1948 clash against the Bloaters, with two spearheads and one other top name still to be confirmed.
The meeting, which takes place on the Pirates' April 26 birthday, will be a special celebration of 70 years of speedway in Poole - with admission charges more in line with 1948 than 2018!
Promoter Matt Ford said: "I want this special night to be about the town and the community. Speedway has been part of the fabric of Poole for 70 years and we want to remember those times as well as celebrating the here and now.
“When I took over this great club in 1999, our admission prices were £9.50 for entry and £1.50 for a programme and obviously prices have risen, alongside everything else, over the past 19 years.
“But this meeting is about far more than money and I’m pleased to confirm that entry will be just £8, including a commemorative 32-page A4 programme.
“I want to welcome the town and community as a whole to our home to watch some great speedway and celebrate with us.”
As well as the clash against the Bloaters, the stadium will be open between 2.30pm and 5.30pm on April 26 for a free ‘History of Poole Speedway’ event, featuring talks from riders past and present. The main gates will then open at 6pm with the night’s racing beginning at 7pm.
Ford added: “I couldn’t be more excited about this meeting and the club is grateful to the British Speedway Promoters Association for allowing us to use the Bloaters name following the club’s closure in 1962.
“It promises to be a wonderful celebration of 70 years of speedway in Poole and I’m very much looking forward to welcoming the town to the stadium on April 26.”
