PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
After five false starts to their season so far the Volvo Cars Poole Pirates will be anxious to get some racing under their belts when they travel to Leicester on Monday (7.30pm).
Keener than most to see some speedway, Poole owner Matt Ford admitted: “It has been a devastating start to the season with so many postponements and the enforced lack of speedway is doing nobody any favours. I know our lads are as keen as mustard to get out on track and start earning and we can only hope that the weather becomes more favourable, starting with Monday and certainly continuing to next Wednesday (11th) when we hope to get our home season under way."
Leicester is one of a few clubs that have been able to stage a meeting so far, opening their campaign with a narrow victory over Somerset in a challenge meeting a fortnight ago.
The Premiership fixture against the Lions will pitch the Pirates against two of last season's starting line-up - Hans Andersen and Kyle Newman - with the East Midlands side also boasting GP star Martin Vaculik, former British champion Danny King, Pole Krzysztian Piesczcek and recent signing Michael Palm Toft in their ranks.
Three Pirates will be making their debuts for the club - Kacper Woryna, Linus Sundstrom and caretaker signing Peter Kildemand - and the visitors will have a new face overseeing their exploits for this meeting as Stewart Dickson stands-in for resident team manager Neil Middleditch, who is unavailable for the trip due to business engagements.
Lions: M.Vaculik, M.Palm Toft, D.King (capt), K.Pieszczek, H.Andersen, J.Sarjeant, K.Newman - Team manager Simon Stead
Pirates: B.Kurtz, K.Woryna, J.Grajczonek (capt), L.Sundstrom, P.Kildemand, J.Shanes, M.Szczepaniak - Team manger Stewart Dickson
