ALAN WHALE RIP

16/03/18

Friends of the speedway and grass track world will be saddened to learn of the death of Alan Whale, one of the sport’s leading photographers.

A respected member of the Poole club, Alan took over the position as official track photographer when he joined the Mervyn Stewkesbury promotion in 1989, a position he held until stepping down at the end of 2010.

"I am saddened to hear the news of his passing" said present day Poole owner Matt Ford "Alan was a valued member of my promotion and a great servant to everyone connected with the club."

"A true professional, his work was of the highest quality, and he would always go that little bit extra to make sure it was exactly what was wanted.  He also spent a great deal of time making sure that the riders and sponsors got what they needed."

"I just can’t believe what has happened to the club so far this year", he continued "We have already lost Odd Fossengen, Bobby Croombs, and Vaclav Verner, and now Alan.  We are supposed to be celebrating our 70th anniversary, but so far we have had nothing to celebrate at all."

A well know figure around the British speedway tracks, Alan was also known for his coverage of grass and long track racing both here and on the Continent.  His work was always among the best in its field and a benchmark to those who have taken his place at the pit gate or on the centre green.

The Management and Riders of Poole Speedway extend their sincere condolences to his wife and family at this sad time.
