The Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates face a tough opening fixture on Good Friday (6pm) when they welcome Devonshire cousins Plymouth Gladiator...
THE Volvo Cars Poole Pirates have doubled the club’s Aussie contingent for 2018 after confirming the signing of Josh Grajczonek.
Grajczonek, who starred for the Pirates in the Elite League title-winning campaigns of 2013 and 2014, joins fellow man from Down Under Brady Kurtz as promoter Matt Ford’s team-building starts to gather pace.
The 27-year-old from Townsville in Queensland is a six-times state solo championship winner and will be a key man alongside Kurtz as Ford looks to mark the club’s milestone 70th anniversary season with a 10th top-flight title.
Ford said: “Josh’s place in the team for our 70th anniversary season is another massive statement of intent.
“Alongside Brady Kurtz, I am expecting great things from Josh next year. He featured heavily in both 2013 and 2014 when we won the title so I’m hoping he can be another good omen for us in 2018.
“He is extremely easy to work with, fits the Pirates mould perfectly and is a genuine heat leader who will play a vital role when the tapes go up next season.”
Grajczonek has been a Wimborne Road asset since 2011 and comes into the Volvo Cars Poole Pirates septet on a 7.34 average.
