PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
Poole's stand-in team manager Matt Ford has issued a warning to his 2017 side ahead of tonight's visit to Swindon.
After suffering a record-equalling fourth-in-a-row home league defeat the Pirates' boss is insisting that he sees greater commitment from certain quarters if riders are interested in returning to Poole next season.
"You need to be scoring points to win meetings and to score points you need to put the effort in and I don't think that has entirely been the case from some riders . I was bitterly disappointed to have lost at home for the fourth time simply because I felt that we could have won it. Full credit to Somerset who never let their heads drop but we should have been able to have settled the meeting once we started pulling away a bit mid-meeting. We are just making things so much harder for ourselves by squandering potential points."
"Swindon gave us a right old thumping at home just over a week ago and that still hurts me and so I hope the riders have the same pride, and we certainly need to be more effective than we have been recently when we go there this evening. I will be expecting to see the levels of commitment that I feel our club deserves."
Poole have come away from each of their previous away travels this season with at least a point having won three, drawn three and gained the consolation points in the other two, but with Swindon in such solid form at the moment it will be a big ask of the Pirates to maintain that record.
The Robins who are two points clear of Poole in the Premiership table would move to second place with a victory whilst Poole could overhaul the Wiltshire side if they were to register away win number four.
