Preparations are well under way for the Darcy Ward Invitational 2017 meeting which will be held at the Poole Stadium on 24 March and heralds the opening of the new speedway season at the town’s Wimborne Road stadium.
This prestigious individual meeting is in aid of former World U21 Champion Darcy Ward, who suffered life changing injuries in a racing accident in 2015, which brought his racing career to a premature end.
“ I am so pleased that my meeting is being held at Poole “ said Darcy “ The town has become my second home, and the Poole fans are second to none in my book. I have been lucky to make many friends with the local people who have helped me enormously since my accident.”
“ And I can’t thank the riders enough for taking the time to turn out on my behalf and I count myself very fortunate to have assembled such a high class field for what promises to be a great night’s racing.”
“ As I am sharing my meeting with Red Nose Day, I will be supporting their appeal as much as I can by donating 50p from every admission to Comic Relief. So everyone should benefit.”
The event will be raced using the 16 rider, 23 race, Grand Prix format and has already attracted a top class entry including several riders who will be taking part in the 2017 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series, including former World Champion and Poole team mate Chris Holder, and Jason Doyle currently ranked No 4 in the world.
