BRADY KURTZ won the fourth and final round of the Australian Championship at Kurri-Kurri on Saturday as former Poole Pirate Sam Masters was crowned Australian champion.
Scoring 13 points in the heats, beaten only by Masters and Somerset's Rohan Tungate, Kurtz claimed victory in the final race of the championship, by which time Masters had already been confirmed the national champion, as his closest rival Justin Sedgmen failed to progress from the B final, after scoring just 9 points.
Sedgmen was able to hold on to championship second place with Dave Watt, who had begun the series in splendid form, clinging on for the overall bronze medal.
Kurtz finished the title race in 7th place with 42, 16 more than his 2017 Pirate team-mate Jack Holder who endured a difficult night at Kurri-Kurri where he began with two last places, won his third ride, was leading his fourth when he fell and earned a disqualification, and then fell again in his final race.
