PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
The #WALK4DARCY project has taken another big step forward with the backing of Poole Pirates promoter Gordon Pairman.
The project, organised by Steve Brandon, is gathering pace and a fantastic team of backers have rallied to help Steve and son Jack, who is also taking part in the walk, with their sizeable accommodation and operational costs.
That team has a new member in Mr Pairman, who has donated a significant amount after a chance meeting with ‘Brando’ at the recent Warsaw Speedway Grand Prix.
Gordon told us he’s delighted he could help the project; "I'd been meaning to contact Steve about the walk, and so, when I saw him in the pits after the Grand Prix, I took the opportunity to speak to him.
“What he and his son Jack are doing for Darcy deserves everyone's full support in a similar way that Darcy needs our support and I am pleased that I am in a position to help a little.
“I was first alerted to Darcy being one to watch when he was riding in under 16 meetings in Australia, and I watched him develop from a raw natural talent to someone who had the potential to be one of the world's greatest ever speedway riders.”
“He was sublime to watch and I almost have a feeling of being robbed by what has happened to him. But, my selfish feelings are overcome by my knowledge that Darcy's loss to the sport is a small issue compared to the injury that the sport has inflicted on him,” continued Gordon.
“His resilience and the strength of his partner, Lizzy Turner, are a lesson to all of us as to how to deal with true adversity, and I am privileged to be in a position where I can make a contribution to his future, no matter how small that might be.”
As ever, Brando is extremely grateful for the help, “Without the team of people supporting this project it simply wouldn’t be possible and I want to say a huge thank you to Gordon for his generosity.
“Every donation towards the cost of the project is a donation for Darcy’s fund as it means all the money we raise can go straight to Darcy himself. Jack and I are truly grateful to Gordon, as we are to everyone who has helped us. All I can say is just a massive thank you.”
