RESULT: POOLE BLUE RIBAND

14/10/16

Poole's final showdown of the season produced an all-British 1-2-3 after the event had to go to two run-offs to determine the top trio.

Edward Kennett and Scott Nicholls both scored 13 points whilst Chris Harris and Kacper Gomolski were tied on 11 points

It was an epic match-race that decided the winner as Kennett just managed to squeeze the verdict from Nicholls as the 2016 Wimborne Road campaign came to a close with the narrowest of margins.

Winner Kennett expressed his gratitude to Poole promoter for the invitation to ride in the meeting. "I didn't have such a good start to the season as I missed plenty of meetings early on but it has got better and I am very happy with winning this meeting. I would like to thank Matt for inviting me to take part. I do enjoy coming down here to ride, always get a good reception and it is good to be here."

Kennett won back to back heats in four and five to take the early lead in the standings but was then beaten by popular Poole Pirate Kyle Newman in his third ride and when he returned to winning ways in his fourth outing he was just one victory away from the outright title.

To achieve that he needed to beat Chris Harris but 'Bomber', who is searching for a new club after ending his tenure with Coventry was also in need of a win to try and gain a rostrum place and it was Harris that succeeded in heat 19 thus setting up the two separate run-offs to determine third and fourth as well as the top prize.

Former Pirate Kacper Gomolski backed up his opening race win with four second places to match Harris' 11 points but he couldn't quite reel the Cornishman in when they went head to head in the first of those race-offs.

As predicted before the meeting by Matt Ford the meeting was evenly contested and only four riders failed to pick up at least a race win. One of those was Adam Ellis but even he was heading to a sure victory in heat 2 when he shed a chain and was thrown off his bike on the final lap. He then looked to be signing off his season at Poole with a heat 20 victory only for Adam Skornicki to nick the victory on the line.

The unluckiest rider was Pole Marcin Nowak who had to withdraw from the meeting after crashing in heat 12 when challenging Kyle Newman. It was a move in which Newman was fortunate to avoid as the Pole got out of shape and ploughed heavily into the air barrier.
