REACTION: PIRATES TEAM EFFORT SECURES TREBLE AM...
Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates produced a workmanlike second leg performance to seal the destiny of the SGB Cab Direct Championship Knockout...
Even the rain showers that fell from just prior to the start and throughout the early heats could dampen the spirits of the packed Wimborne Stadium as they witnessed the ReadyPower Pirates comprehensively tame the Leicester Lions.
After being strongly criticised by Poole boss Matt Ford for their lack of gating prowess at Swindon on Monday the Pirates responded with some very sharp get-aways and quickly romped to a 15-3 advantage after just three heats. In the third of those it too a re-run after Szymon Wozniak had been adjudged the cause of the stoppage when he fell on the third turn under a strong challenge by the Pirates' Pole, Krzysztof Buczkowski, so arguably the Leicester side were pleased to see Kyle Newman drop from first to last in heat 4 as it stopped that unwanted sequence stretching beyond three maximum heat defeats.
Poole though did build on their lead when Bjarne Pedersen battled into third as weather conditions began to worsen before Wozniak hit the deck again in heat 5 when a tight first turn saw he and race partner Paul Starke both fall in what was deemed an unsatisfactory start. The Pirate involved in that melee was Brady Kurtz and in the all-four back re-run he quickly hunted out his favoured outside line to power to a commanding race win with Buczkowski backing him up, as conditions improved.
Hans Andersen and Chris Holder sealed another Poole 5-1 in heat 7 and Leicester opted to use the tactical rule in heat 8 with Aaron Summers seeking double points. But he found himself missing the start amidst plenty of movement before the tapes rose and Kurtz and Newman trumped the tactical move by registering yet another Poole maximum 5-1.
Pedersen was picked off by Starke and Auty in heat 9 which checked the Pirates who now led 40-14. The visitors went into the interval break on the back of their one and only 5-1 Summers and Wozniak making the better starts and the Poole pair of Buczkowski and Andersen spending too long on trying to sort out their racing lines.
It served for nothing in the scheme of things as Holder and Ellis responded after the break, Ellis doing particulary well to overhaul Klindt to assure Poole the three league points, before heat 12 delivered the race with the most positional changes, eventually the win going to Lions' Auty from Pedersen and Newman for an equal division of the points
Holder came through from the back in heat 13 to complete his programmed paid maximum and whilst Andersen tried to follow suit Wozniak proved to be too resilient. Heat 14 was another ragged start which went unpunished and Klindt made the most of it, withstanding pressure from Buczkowski and then the Dane made it two wins on the bounce as he took heat 15 backed up in third by Aaron Summers as the Pirates offered up their youngsters to fight this battle, Kurtz taking second and Ellis pulling up late on.
So the expected three points were comfortably gained and as the Pirates were enjoying the lap of honour news was breaking that leaders Belle Vue - the Pirates' next opponents - were sensationally slipping up at home, where the Pirates go on Monday.
