Darcy Ward has launched a membership scheme for his Darcy Ward Foundation.
Visitors to the DWF website will now see a new menu option for ‘membership’ and will be able to become a part of the foundation for an annual subscription of £43. There is an alternative option to pay £4.30 a month for those who prefer to spread the cost.
The announcement comes on the back of the revelation that the former racer is keen for his Foundation to spread its wings to other good causes.
Benefits include a member’s exclusive pin badge, issued to all who subscribe, along with a photo gift upon joining. The DWF have promised a free monthly member’s draw for some ‘one-of-a-kind’ prizes and souvenirs and a quarterly newsletter.
The members will have exclusive access to the DWF community, with a dedicated forum to which Darcy and partner, Lizzie, will be contributing, along with the other members. And after 12 months the membership will be involved in funding decisions regarding which beneficiaries the DWF might support, including being able to nominate candidates across the globe.
The DWF is working on the criteria for directing support, but it is expected to be offered primarily to persons suffering spinal injuries through wheeled sports. There is also expected to be money set aside for research.
Ward is quick to recognise where he has been fortunate, despite his life changing injuries. “I know that I am lucky to have an incredible fan base all over the world and I am just so grateful; most people go through these things alone without a support network like mine. If I can use some of my support to give a bit over to them, it could make a difference to their lives in some way. The people I have met and made friends with at Making Strides in Australia are a great example. They have given me something very positive in my life and if I can help a few people like them, then it would be a real privilege”.
As Ward opens the door to followers to become members of his foundation, it provides an enticing invitation be a part a very special and unique Speedway legacy.
