PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
Poole Pirates' lucky charm, Dave Watt, is on his way back with the Pirates for the 2015 campaign, after three seasons away from Wimborne Road.
The Australian, who turns 37 on Tuesday, and has won four titles in his 'in-and-out' career with the Pirates, returns on a 6.71 average and Poole boss Matt Ford is enthusing about bringing back one of his most respected riders. He has amassed in excess of 1300 points in Poole colours and is just 210 points shy of joining ttop 20 list of Poole scorers.
"I first saw Davey ride at the end of the 2000 season when I was in Australia and was instantly persuaded to bring him across to the UK and at the time we were able to fit him up with a place in the Isle of Wight side. That season he attained a 6-point plus average with the Islanders and did himself proud and has continued to be a consistent performer ever since.
"Last year he rode all season at number one for Lakeside and as we all know, the race format made it particularly tough on the number ones meeting their peers each time. Coupled with some injuries his point scoring was perhaps not as great as he would have liked.
"His starting average this year will be far more favourable to us slotting in on 6.71 as I am certain he will flourish lower down the order for us and so offering solid back up to Chris (Holder)
"It is good to 'welcome him home' for another season and as we seek our third successive title who knows that having this 'lucky charm' back on-side could well be the key to a successful campaign."
The inclusion of Watt, the third Australian named in the Pirates' 2015 line-up, means that the club have two positions still to fill and 11.97 points available.
