RESULT: FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX OF POLAND

10/10/14

Maciej Janowski couldn't quite replicate his 2012 Torun-staged GP performance when he made the semi-finals but showed that he can certainly be a force to be reckoned with when he steps up full-time in the series next season, as he finished with 7 points in the final round of this year's series replacing the suspended Darcy Ward. Janowski was delighted to be involved in the meeting especially on the very night his mentor Greg Hancock secured his third world championship title.

In a night of quality racing, high drama and numerous twists and turns the 2014 championship went out in style, even requiring an extra race to determine the final medal positions as both Tai Woffinden and Nicki Pedersen had finished the tournament on 121 points each. And that run-off proved highly entertaining as the outgoing world champion Woffinden tried what was becoming a trademark tactic on the Torun circuit of riding as tight to the air barrier as possible. But Pedersen, with blood boiling after being thrown out of the final for causing Krzysztof Kasprzak to fall was alert to his rivals' action and closed off any access.

Earlier, Kasprzak had dusted himself down from that incident with Pedersen and claimed his third GP win this season in the re-run of teh final having already secured second place in the championship when he made an untroubled tapes to flag heat 18 ride.

By then Hancock had already wrestled the title from Woffinden, his second place behind Pedersen in heat 10 being sufficient. But the American never eased up and his victory in heat 20 ahead of Miedzinski saw both Janowski (third) and Chris Holder miss out on any involvement in the semi-finals.

Janowski had looked set to open with a win after a terrific gate in heat one but Zagar worked hard to round him and then Pedersen was setting up to go by just as Janowski's bike decided to play-up preventing him from trying to retaliate. He was out in front again in heat 8 but the revitalised Swede Andreas Jonsson was able to pick him off but then glory followed for Magic with victory in heat 12. He edged home Freddie Lindgren for a point in heat 16 before having to work hard to get by Holder in the final programmed heat of the evening.
