PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
Poole skipper Maciej Janowski was squeezed out of the top eight scorers in the 2015 MITAS Slovenian FIM Speedway Grand Prix on the aspect of countback after finishing on equal points with his Pirates' team-mate Chris Holder and second Australian Troy Batchelor, but has edged his way back into an automatic qualifying place for 2015.
Despite failing to reach the semi-finals it was nonetheless a formidable attempt by the young Pole to get as far as he did after he suffered an arm injury that needed stitches to his elbow in his opening ride.
Janowski was involved in a re-started heat 2 incident when holding a small advantage he was clippedt by Swede Jonasson as Nicki Pedersen was seeking a tight route up the inside. Gallanty Janowski fought on and recorded a second place in the re-run and followed that up with a similar result in heat 6 when he pushed race winner Tai Woffinden all the way. A third outing victory preceeded two last places left him on 9 points, matched by the two Australians with Holder clocking up two impressive race wins to start with before managing just one more point from his final three programmed rides. His compatriot Batchelor was a first time out winner and backed that up with three second places which gave him the final qualifying berth.
Neither Australian could however progress beyond the semi-final nor increase their points total - the final four riders coming from the veteran Greg Hancock who dropped his only point of the night when beaten by Jason Doyle in heat 18. Hancock immediately dedicated his victory - the 19th of his career - to Darcy Ward who he described as 'legendary' and urged the injured Australian to 'stay strong'.
Crucially though runner-up Woffinden confirmed his grip on the championship lead despite shedding two points to Hancock on the night, the difference between the Britain and the chasing pack, now headed by Hancock who overtook Nicki Pedersen in the standings is 25 points with just three rounds remaining
