PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
Poole's Wednesday night's opponents Swindon have moved into the play-off zone after a big win at Wolverhampton on Monday, but the Robins' victory may have come at a cost for them.
Australian Nick Morris (pictured below), who missed the recent confrontation between the two sides when they met at the Abbey Stadium earlier in the month with an elbow injury, aggravated that same injury when he fell in his second outing and had to withdraw from the Robins' latest match which has ruled him out for Wednesday, with Swindon calling on the services of Coventry's Hans Andersen as a guest replacement.
The Robins are already without reserve Lewis Rose who broke his scaphoid in the heat 2 clash of the Swindon v Poole affair, which the home side eventually won by 8 points, and Darryl Ritchings has been drafted in to cover.
Poole, presently second in the table have a full one-to-seven and will be determined to put more points on the board on Wednesday. Club talisman Dave Watt played a big part in preventing Coventry from picking up a 7th away win of the season when he guested for Lakeside on Monday and scored 5+1. The Hammers, who lost both their reserves for the night - Adam Ellis and guest Adam Roynon - with injuries whilst the Bees had to ride without Stuart Robson who took a heavy first heat fall, put in a dramatic fightback to earn a draw limiting Coventry to two points.
The Poole camp know that Wednesday is as much of 'must-win' fixture for them as it is for the Robins, and boss Matt Ford is urging the fans, many of whom he recognises are likely to turn out to see the return of Darcy Ward, to 'get behind the Poole boys and play the role of the eighth man. I think the message Swindon gave on Monday was loud and clear and with Grzegorz Zengota continuing to show some very impressive form (Zengota scored 16 at Monmore) this is going to be a real test for the Pirates, one that if all our lads right to their potential have the ability to come through with flying colours, but there is absolutely no room for passengers or slip-ups."
Wednesday Line-ups (from)
