RESULT: BRITISH GP - CARDIFF

3/07/15

Despite missing out on what would have been his first gold medal since Cardiff 2012 - the year he was ultimately crowned world champion - Chris Holder finished in Cardiff as the night's highest scorer.

Notching an 18 point tally outpointing series leader Tai Woffinden, who finished fourth in the final by three points. Holder had mixed emotions about his night's performance in the principality, admitting "Right now I am not too pleased that I didn't get the win. I was in two minds in the final as to whether to go out to the fence on the back straight or stay inside. I took the wrong option and feel gutted about that.
"Tomorrow I may well feel a bit better a out this second place but it doesn’t feel like that just now. I should have done better and made it another win here. This place has been good to me with two podium places and two wins but I had the chance of a third Cardiff victory and that would have been awesome.
"But I am pleased that I am now back up there mixing it with the boys. After three rounds I was absolutely nowhere near the top 8 but now I have had one good result it all begins to look a lot better.
"It really makes a difference when you know you are one something that works and I certainly have some better engines now. That really is the key. Without these motors I was looking pretty ordinary but knowing that you can have the tools for the job really helps in all aspects and that is helping to restore my confidence levels."

Holder had early masterfully kept Niels-Kristian Iversen at bay when the pair met in heat 16 but in that crucial final he had no answers to the big sweep made by Niels-Krisitian Iversen. The Dane who broke Poole fans hearts on Wednesday night by salvaging a third place in the final heat of the night in Norfolk that denied Poole an away league win, marched on his way to his fourth GP title.
His compatriot Peter Kildemand, in the meeting as a reserve replacement for Jaroslaw Hampel claimed third place leaving Woffinden medal-bare after seeing his night end the way it began with a last place, but sandwiched in between were five very impressive winning rides.
Poole skipper Maciej Janowski had somewhat reversed statistics to Woffinden, winning just one of his heats and failing to score in his other four races despite often being in the mix. That result has squeezed Janowski outside of the top 8 - now on 26 championship points after four rounds.
Holder, on the other hand, has elevated himself up the rankings to go joint 6th with Hampel, who looks to be out for the rest of the series.
