PIRATES DECLINE PREMIERSHIP KO CUP INVITATION
Poole Speedway has made the decision not to participate in the 2025 Premiership Knockout Cup. While the invitation was both unexpected and exciting...
Poole skipper Maciej Janowski went through the Prague heats unbeaten with a magical performance and then proceeded to his first ever final where he had to settle for third place on the night.
Janowski, produced some superb gating in those heats and the one time he wasn't quite as swift away as he would have liked he still managed to produce a slice of magic with an audacious move to outwit his mentor Greg Hancock, who at the time was also unbeaten, when they met in heat 14.
The move saw him switch from the gate three line to the inside and go under Hancock to make it four rides, four wins before completing the full-house three heats later when he sped away from Prague specialist and series leader Tai Woffinden.
Janowski opted for gate two in his semi-final having pick of the crop but failed to make the most of the start. Unperturbed though he quickly negotiated the first turn driving inside and securing that all important second place behind Pedersen whilst having enough legs to hold out Matej Zagar's final lap assault.
Pressure certainly got the better of him in his debut final and his early movement forced a re-start from which he was again sharp away but lost out to the pace of Woffinden who was on his way to his third successive Prague GP victory. Pedersen attempted to move Janowski off line but the move failed and cost the Dane ground and he drifted to the rear as Hampel took up third. The Pole then put further pressure on his fellow countryman and found a way by Janowski leaving the Poole captain on the bottom step of the rostrum and 7th place overall in the standings.
Janowski's team-mate Chris Holder began impressively with a great move from gate four in the opening heat but could only add a further three points to his tally over his remaining four rides.
The series, now three rounds old, goes into a six week sabbatical with the next Grand Prix action at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff on July 4th.
