RESULT: POOLE V LAKESIDE

7/07/15

They may have been absent from Wimborne Road for three weeks but the Poole Ready Power Pirates certainly hadn't forgotten how to ride the Dorset track as they put Lakeside Hammers to the sword with a trouble-free 60-30 league win that more than satisfied their captain Maciej Janowski.

The unbeaten, newly crowned Polish champion admitted "every meeting we always try and win and today the whole team scored really good points and all the boys tried really hard. I just hope that we can have more of these sort of nights between now and the end of the season."

Janowski wasn't the only Pirate with an unblemished result card, British GP runner-up Chris Holder was also untroubled by an opponent, whilst the invigorated Dave Watt dropped his only points of the meeting when out in heat 15 and reserve Paul Starke only dropped a single point in the course of his four outings.

The Pirates dominated from the off with Watt and Holder cruising to maximum points after Lakeside's guest, Kyle Howarth, recently axed by Swindon to allow the Robins to accommodate Darcy Ward in their septet, was too eager at the tapes and was dismissed 15 metres at the start. The Pirates steadily built on that advantage, the Hammers hampered by mechanical gremlins for Richard Lawson in his opening rides.

A tactical ride for Hammers' number one Andreas Jonsson yielded no reward as Gomolski blitzed by him at the first turn to add to Dakota North's bright start. Ex-Pirate Vaclav Milik showed intent by temporarily taking the lead but North, who had his father Rod in attendance for the first time this season, reclaimed the advantage and Poole were cruising at 25-11

Dropping just two points over the course of the next five heats the match was over as a contest, but Adam Ellis showed some character to claim his second race win - and Lakeside's -  withstanding a determined effort from both Starke and Newman in heat 12.

Holder and Janowski registered a somewhat easy 5-1 over Jonsson after Milik had shed a chain at the start of heat 13 but that was countered in heat 14 when the Hammers delivered their only heat advantage of the evening, a maximum 5-1 over North and the retiring Kacper Gomolski. Lawson who had backed up Kennett in that one then took the honours in the final heat but had to stave off a fast pursuing North who had Watt supporting him in third place as the Pirates hit 60 points for the first time since their expunged result against Birmingham in June 2014.
