Poole fired themselves up into second place in the Elite league with a convincing enough win over Leicester Lions at Wimborne Road, to complete the double over the basement side in the space of three days
A 52-38 triumph for the Pirates saw them leapfrog over next opponents King's Lynn, who they meet twice in the next seven days, starting with a trip to the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday (28th).
With their chosen 1-7 assembled for only the third time this season the Pirates quickly overcame a first heat reversal to take control of the meeting and on their way to that 52 point score they took the club's league race points through the 93,000 barrier.
That milestone was achieved when Dakota North and Maciej Janowski, the skipper making his first appearance at Wimborne Road since breaking his knee in April, combined for an impressive 5-1 over Lions' number one Jason Doyle in heat 10 to move the Pirates scores on to 36-24.
It had followed an excellent similar 5-1 advantage from the Pirates' Rider of the Night Chris Holder and a close candidate for that accolade Kyle Newman and Holder superbly contributed to a third on the bounce when he charged by Nick Morris to join Dave Watt at the front in heat 11 and squander any hopes the visitors had of getting back into the meeting through Morris' tactical ride.
There was controversy and confusion in heat 13 when Richard Lawson, one of three Leicester guest riders, chose to come to the party and was leading, by some distance as Watt, Janowski and Jason Doyle were scrapping out the minor placings in an extremely tight race. On entering the first turn on the third lap Doyle went down under pressure from Janowski and referee Chris Gay awarded the result with Janowski disqualified. But surprisingly initially declared a shared heat with the win going to Watt, before moments later correcting the finishing order .
He had earlier incensed the Poole crowd when after warning Kyle Newman about remaining stationary at the tapes in heat 8 he then penalised the Poole reserve when he launched forward after Sam Masters had feigned a start. Newman though opted for a handicap start and within two laps had made up the distance to ensure Poole shared the points as Somerset rider Charles Wright led the way home ahead of Gomolski.
The Pirates saw out the meeting with two shared heats the final one being superbly taken by Holder as the lone representative after Janowski had fallen on his own accord at the third turn during the first attempt . Holder had drilled his way to the front to join his skipper only to see the red lights come on. The 2012 world champion made no mistake in the re-run tearing from the tapes to win like the Holder of old and admitted afterwards "that was a different story for me tonight after the embarrassment of Monday. I had no excuses really for that but I have to say tonight felt much better , the bikes were going good and I could have no complaints whatsoever."
