RESULT: POOLE V LAKESIDE

14/05/14

Poole bounced back from a slow start against league leaders Lakeside to maintain their unbeaten home form with a 50-40 victory over the Essex side.

Whilst the Pirates had sound scoring from all their riders, save debutant Ben Hopwood who failed to score, the Hammers were deprived valuable points from their heavy hitters and had to rely largely on the impressive form of Richard Lawson (13) and the very pacey Lewis Bridger (10).
The difference in balance of the two sides told in the end with Poole working their way back into the meeting after slipping behind by 6 points after just four heats.
But a good ride round the boards from Janowski in heat 5 backed up by the Chris Holder, who was making his final appearance for the Pirates as a deputy for Darcy Ward,  in third Poole collected their first heat advantage and never looked back. A match-levelling 5-1 followed from Milik and Pawlicki and with the visitors only providing race winners in the guise of Bridger and Lawson the Pirates found the second half of the meeting going their way.
Lawson eventually denied Shamek Pawlicki a maiden British league maximum by leading him home in heat 15, but the league points were safely in the Pirates' possession as the Dorset side moved to within 4 points of the leaders but with 5 meetings in hand.
